ICT and Employability in the Community – DECV

DECV (Dearne Electronic Community Village) has a proven track record supporting many people living in the Dearne with all aspects of gaining Computer skills and searching and applying for a job. People can make the most of one-to-one / small group support with searching for jobs, writing CVs and covering letters, completing applications, preparing for an interview, as well as information and help with Online job search and applications.

There will also be the opportunity to take part in our popular computer courses, accredited with OCR.  If you need help finding work and want to gain a qualification in ICT please call 01709 889880 or 07813022087 and speak to our Qualified and experienced tutor about booking your place.

There are many reasons to brush up on your English and Maths skills and gain a formal qualification. Whether you’re looking to achieve a new career or promotion, looking to improve skills you already have, or a parent struggling to help your children with their homework, studying for an up-to-date free Functional English and Maths qualification at Dearne Valley College might be the route for you!

Achieving an up-to-date formal qualification will demonstrate to prospective employers that you have the English and Maths skills that they are looking for and give you a leading edge. It could help you to beat off the competition for new positions or promotion opportunities.

OCR Entry (3) ICT Awards & Award in Life & Living Skills

Well done to all 40 students who completed the OCR ICT Qualification and the award in Life & Living Skills. A massive thanks to Barnsley Ward Alliance and BMBC who funded us for this successful 6 month pilot project!  Many thanks to our partners, Dearne Valley College, Goldthorpe Jobcentre and CRT.  10 learners from the project managed to secure employment.

It is hoped further funding can be secured to continue our work helping local residents back into work.

Dearne Valley College will be offering English & Maths courses at DECV starting September September 3rd 2013.  Please contact us or pop into the centre if you are interested in enrolling.

You must attend all sessions to complete the course.  Courses last 8 weeks with 2 sessions per week.

Thurnscoe Readers Group

If you enjoy reading why not join our reading group? The group is informal and very relaxed .  We meet once per month (1st Monday) at 10am-12pm. We currently have 12 members. It’s an ideal way to have some fun and lively discussion!
